Jose Almeida Garrett runs this family business which lies at the foot of the Serra de Estrela mountain range (the mountains of the stars). Not only is the area breathtakingly beautiful, it also has the reputation as the fruit basket of Portugal, growing figs, oranges, lemons, apples, pears and of course, grapes. In 1993, the Almeida Garrett family took the decision to go it alone, and remain to this day one of only a handful of privately owned vineyard in the region bottling their own product. Their vineyards lie in the Vale de Gardunha, and on the southern slopes of the Serra de Gardunha, both highly reputed for fruit production.
