Alentejo region

Joao Ramos is southern Portugal’s leading wine maker.  At his property in Estremoz, the Monte de Serrado Pinheiro, and at his new winery, Vila Santa, he produces wines from Aragones, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouchet, Periquita, Cabernet, Tinta Caiada and Syrah (for the reds), and Antao Vaz, Roupeiro, Rabo de Ovelha, Arinto, Verdelho, Viognier, Petit Manseng and others for the whites.

Joao has 125 hectares under vine and a further 120 hectares under contract, but fully controlled by the winery, brings the total to an impressive 245 hectares.

Quinta de Viçosa 2009 Shiraz Trincadeira -
this wine comes from one particularly good plot of land that lies within the walled boundary of an old quinta.  Made only in very good years, and generally from a combination of two grape varieties.  Aged for 12 months in French oak these are exquisite wines aimed at the connoisseur
