Herdade do Sobroso, Alentejo

Herdade de Sobroso lies at the very extreme eastern fringe of Alentejo close to the Alqueva dam and the Spanish border.

Established as recently as 2002, and with 50 Hectras under vine, Herdade do Sobroso is run by renowned enologist Filipe Teixeira Pinto and agronomist Francisco Pimenta.

The vineyard has loam-clay, sandy soil and the design of the vineyards matches the toughest criteria, to assure the production of highest quality grapes.

The area is known for its cool winters, followed by long, hot summers. The principal red grape varieties are Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Grossa and Trincadeira, while the white wines essentially come from Antão Vaz, Arinto & Perrum grape varieties.
